Unit 16 updated feedback

You have completion of a single camera short film production which shows some application of techniques to produce a coherent narrative. The cinematography relies on overlong sequences with little shot variation to tell the story. Editing techniques are basic and rely on cuts which do not create continuity or pace or create tension. There is little experimentation with camera camera angles. Lighting uses only natural light and doesn't generate generic mood or meaning. 16.2
Prepare to edit
Merit
You have applied editing preparation techniques including
ü  reviewing rushes,
ü  creating bins,
ü  labelling shots and takes and
ü  exported an EDL systematically and
ü  the documents are functional and prepared with some care.
ü  The editor’s log shows recognition of why such documentation is necessary.
ü  The organisation of paperwork is presentable but does not use layouts expected.
Distinction
ü  Preparation is thorough, systematic and detailed.
ü  Rushes logs show a full appreciation of the possibilities and limitations of shots, and
ü  Edit decision lists provide a fully detailed blueprint for the final piece.
ü  All paperwork is clear and organised to a near-professional standard.
16.3
Carry out editing
Merit
ü  The edited short film has only minor technical flaws.
ü  Flash frames and jump cuts are absent and
ü  the techniques chosen suit the genre and narrative.
ü  There are some issues with timing and pacing, but
ü  generally there is a sense of competence in the selection of shots and combination of sound and vision.
ü  There is some imaginative thought behind the work and
ü  technical skills are employed with some inventiveness and some confidence.

Distinction
ü  The editing is technically excellent and shows flair in its use of
ü  structure,
ü  pace and
ü  combination of sound and vision.
ü  Editing techniques used will be entirely appropriate for the genre and narrative of the short film.
ü  As well as being technically skilful, the editing has been used creatively, imaginatively and with style to make the short film effective so that the work approaches professional standards.
